So I played around with this mix for a long time. It began to develop when I realized I haven’t included any older songs in my mixes. So I started by choosing songs from the 60’s and 70’s then found it taking on this kind of country, folk, twangy kind of sound. I finished it when I was on vacation in Ocean City and maybe because I was relaxing and enjoying simpler days I gravitated towards music that felt American or rootsy. Although not all the artists are American I think it has the feeling of rural life or old grainy photos in a shoebox. A kind of vibrant nostalgia… if that makes any sense. Either way I hope you enjoy it.

Ahh, so this is what Arcade Fire meant when they said The Suburbs would have eight covers. I thought it was a stupid sales gimmick when I first heard it. I think it’s really clever because the suburbs are the home of a lot of people who would buy this album. This will just make the album’s relationship with the listener more personal as people will choose what best feels like home to them. Kudos, Arcade Fire!
I just saw on Pitchfork that 2 more Arcade Fire songs from the new album, The Suburbs, are out! You can listen to below on the SoundCloud player. This new song (I’m hearing for the first time) is better than the title track I think, the bass is really awesome (weird I know). These both have a groove that their previous songs haven’t. I liked the direction they went in with Neon Bible (contrary to most people I guess) and I really like this one too. I just wish they would stop teasing me and release the damn thing already.
